Mothers in Amsterdam
Updated
Amsterdam joins the Journal as a city-life edition, not as a claim that Alma operates here.
The first guides focus on useful, repeatable family days and current local sources.

How Alma Circle works
You answer a short questionnaire about where you live, your children, your season of motherhood and the kind of connection you are looking for. Alma uses that context to match you with a small local Circle of mothers whose lives are realistically compatible with yours.
When the Circle is ready, it opens inside Alma in a private space where members can talk, see meetup details, RSVP and keep a recurring rhythm. The point is not to collect contacts. It is to make seeing the same people again easy enough that real friendship has a chance to grow.
- No swiping and no public profile grid
- Matched around proximity, motherhood stage and practical preferences
- A private in-app Circle space for chat, meetups and RSVPs
- A recurring rhythm designed to turn introductions into real-life connection
Why a small Circle instead of more matches
Most social apps optimise for discovery: more profiles, more chats, more possible matches. Friendship usually needs the opposite. It needs a manageable number of people, enough proximity to meet without a major logistics exercise, and a reason to see each other again.
Alma is designed around continuity rather than browsing. The Circle stays small, the private space keeps coordination in one place, and the recurring rhythm removes some of the work that usually falls on one exhausted person to organise.
What exactly is an Alma Circle?
A small local group of mothers matched around area, motherhood stage and practical preferences. Once the Circle is ready, members get a private in-app space to chat, see meetup details, RSVP and keep the connection going between real-life moments.
How much does Alma cost?
The current Alma membership is €29 per month. Membership can include up to two active Circles; ticketed Alma Experiences, when applicable, are booked separately.
When does my private Circle open?
A private Circle opens once it reaches five secured seats. Timing therefore depends on how many compatible mothers are available near you rather than on a fixed delay.
Do I have to bring my child?
Not always. Circle formats can differ: some moments are designed for mothers only and others welcome babies or children. The format is made clear before you join and in the meetup details inside Alma.
